For more than 20 years AWKWORD has consistently recorded and released independent Hip Hop music to critical acclaim.
AWKWORD'S 100% for-charity global Hip Hop album 'World View', released in 2014 by DJBooth, was featured by Complex, MTV, Village Voice, The Grio, The Fader, Prefix Mag, Urb, XXL, The Source, Vibe, Hot 97, Ego Trip ,and Okay Player. The song and video "Bars & Hooks", produced by Harry Fraud and featuring Sean Price and The Kid Daytona, has amassed more than two-million views/streams; the first song on the album, "Gas Land" (about fracking), produced by Numonics and featuring Chaundon, reached the #1 spot on the college radio Hip Hop charts.
Since 2014, AWKWORD has focused primarily on abolitionist organizing, co-founding TEN DEMANDS in 2020 and releasing music sporadically:
"Deep Sea", produced by C-Lance and commissioned by The Ocean Project, was released in celebration of World Oceans Day in 2014.
In 2016, AWKWORD released the song and video for “I Am”, featuring the best Hip Hop artists from across Africa.
"Heather Heyer" dropped September 11, 2017, in response to the Unite the Right rally.
"TEN DEMANDS", AWKWORD's abolitionist anthem, was released in 2020; it was immediately censored by YouTube.
"Why We March", about our unjust healthcare system, was created for the 50+ Medicare for All marches in 2021.
